NGC 4088 SN2009dd

The bright spot in the centre of this galaxy is actually a star that went supernova millions of light years ago. This supernova, SN 2009dd, was detected only one week before this image was taken.

The image is a stack of 220 images of 10 seconds exposure each.

NGC 4631 "Whale Galaxy"

This galaxy was a bit futher away from polaris, and this time I really was limited to 5 seconds subs (and even then I had to throw away 50% of my frames...). Luckily the galaxy has a rather high surface brightness, so there is still plenty of detail visible.

For this image I used 274 frames of 5 seconds exposure each. I might try to get some color data for this galaxy in the next couple of weeks.

Arp 114

Two galaxies extremely close to polaris captured in the fov of a modded webcam. Arp 114 consists of the spiral galaxy NGC 2276 (aka Arp 25) and the galaxy NGC 2300 (the other blob).

The image consists of 69 x 15 seconds plus an additional 66 x 10 seconds.

NGC 2715

Galaxy.

luminance: 240 x 15s (vesta 680k)

The galaxy is rather dim, and it was difficult to bring out the fine details.

NGC 1530

NGC1530 is an is an archetypical barred galaxy.

The image was taken in between the clouds. I actually wanted to take more luminance and rgb shots, but I simply didn't get enough time. Apart from the lack of color data, I'm quite pleased with the final result.

Processing was done in Registax, CCDSharp, and Photoshop CS3.

Luminance: 126 x 15 seconds with the b/w Vesta Pro 680k webcam (without any filters)
RGB: 8 x 20 seconds with the spc900nc webcam (with an uv/ir-block filter)

An image of M 82 (aka "Cigar Galaxy")

Luminance: 172 x 10 seconds (680k, without any filters)
RGB: 17 x 10 + 16 x 20 seconds (spc900nc, in color mode using uv/ir-block filter)

Images were selected manually, stacked in Registax and further processed in Photoshop.
